The first stage on an investigation. Normally based on maps and other secondary data. Used to inform type of investigation required.
Drilling of Trial Pits to collect samples for testing, also i-situ testing such as SPTs to derive soil strength values.
Samples will be sent to labs for testing, this can include tests for soil description, chemical quality and strength. Results from lab testing and from in-situ testing are then used as input data for calculations, resulting in foundation design or bearing pressures supplied to client in the form of a geotechnical report.
